Our story

Cosa Buena is a responsible connection between cultures through travel, design, education, and advocacy.

At Cosa Buena, the essence of our name embodies our core values. Cosa Buena means "good thing," and that is precisely what we strive to create—a space where goodness flourishes through collective action and shared vision.

Established in 2016, Cosa Buena started as a Master's thesis project and ultimately blossomed into a multifaceted social enterprise and global community. Today, Cosa Buena is composed of a regenerative travel company, a design studio, and a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.

In 2015, founder Vera Claire was working in Oaxaca on her master's thesis developing a narrative-based literacy program in collaboration with a female weaving cooperative. The program was designed with the active participation of the weavers. During the process they expressed their core beliefs, daily struggles, and aspirations. These important ideas helped lay the groundwork for Cosa Buena: the belief that, as a global community, we need to be more aware of the impact of travel on local cultures and ecosystems.

Over the years, Cosa Buena has grown into a force for good, championing regenerative travel practices, community engagement, and sustainable design solutions in Oaxaca. With a strong emphasis on collaboration, Cosa Buena seamlessly blends the worlds of creativity and responsible tourism, offering immersive experiences and beautiful designs that not only showcase the natural beauty and cultural heritage of Oaxaca, but also actively contribute to the betterment of local communities. Cosa Buena collaborates closely with local artisans, entrepreneurs, and change-makers to fund community development work through The Cosa Buena Foundation (501(c)(3) nonprofit organization).
